40 Below Experience

Experience the chill of being on the Iditarod trail in 40-below temperatures. After suiting up, enter the Chilkoot Chill, experiment with the environment and take some spectacular photographs. Learn about the effects of sub-zero temperatures on the people and animals in the north. Feel them yourself for a few minutes!

Come to Alaska 360’s Dredge Town where you will be immersed in the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Pan for gold, meet our sled dogs and their puppies, and experience the cold of an Iditarod race in a 40° degree below zero room.

Your adventure begins as you board your motor coach for a ride through the historic streets of downtown Skagway to Alaska 360’s Dredge Town.

Once there, meet your guide and watch a video presentation introducing you to the dogs and highlights of what winter dog sledding is like today. Meet the dog team and watch them exhibit discipline and enthusiasm in a demonstration sled run. Interact with the dogs and hold the puppies. After layering up, step into the cold chamber and experience the cold of an Iditarod race in a 40° degree below zero room.

Next, get ready to warm up with a little gold fever. Learn the art of panning for gold with a humorous and educational show that promises to teach you everything you need to know. Practice your technique in warm water troughs. Gold is guaranteed! Once you've hit pay dirt, weigh your fortune with our assayers and visit our Gold Parlor for a selection of mining equipment and nuggets.

Use your free time to shop our very special Alaskan gifts and souvenirs and our Snack Shack for home-baked cookies, drinks, and treats. Take in a brief film of the northern lights, our dredge, or Charlie Chaplin in The Gold Rush. Dredge Town is filled with photo opportunities and places of interest. Summit Train

Take a ride on one of Skagway’s most breathtaking tours up the White Pass Summit on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad.

This tour combines a trip to the White Pass Summit, with a visit to Alaska 360's Dredge Town. Travel onboard the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad for a narrated trip 3,290 feet above sea level. While following in the footsteps of early gold seekers, you will see the historical areas of Brackett Wagon Road, Pitch Fork Falls, Dead Horse Gulch and the infamous Tormented Valley. You will be in your own private train car with a costumed guide who will assist you on the entire tour. Alaska 360's Dredge Town continues your immersion in the history of the Klondike Gold Rush. Meet our sled dogs and their puppies and learn the art of panning for gold in our warm water troughs.

Join an unforgettable journey aboard the world-famous narrow gauge White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad along the eastern side of the White Pass to the 2,865-foot summit. This iron trail was built over 100 years ago through some of the North's most rugged terrain. Board a vintage rail car and retrace the original route to the summit of White Pass where you will have a toast and snack provided by your personal costumed guide. Listen while your guide regales you with stories of the stampeders who trekked through the pass in search of gold. See picturesque points such as Tormented Valley and Pitchfork Falls where you will be able to look back across the valley to the train tracks from which you just traveled.

Enjoy a toast and snack at the summit and a rollicking good time on the way back down to Skagway.

You will make a stop at Alaska 360's Dredge Town and learn the art of panning for gold with a humorous and educational show done by one of our seasoned miners. Next, practice your technique in warm water troughs. Gold is guaranteed! Once you've hit pay dirt, weigh your fortune with our assayers and visit our Gold Parlor for a selection of mining equipment and nuggets. Lots of costumed characters will show you around our demonstrations, museums, movies, and interactive living museums.

Dredge Town also hosts a dogsled demonstration. See a video about dogs of the Gold Rush and hear a live presentation of Alaska's state sport presented by a seasoned musher. Stop by the checkpoint tent to see the gear a musher and dog team takes with them on a long-distance race. Meet the Iditarod sled dogs and watch a short demonstration run. You will then have an opportunity to meet the dogsled team and pet the puppies. You can't take them home, but you will leave with enough Alaska 360 memories to last a lifetime.
